Deliverable: Spatial UI / Mixed Reality Experience
The Brief: UI Pirate came to us with a problem: Text-heavy content—even fascinating stuff about Nobel Laureates and longevity—usually gets scrolled past. They needed a way to present historical data that felt less like a textbook and more like an exhibition.
The Lab Report: We moved beyond simple "VR" and focused on Spatial Information Architecture.
Contextual Anchoring: We didn't want to block the user out of their world. We anchored the primary interface to the physical environment (the coffee table), using real-time light estimation to cast accurate shadows. It grounds the digital assets, making them feel physically heavy.
Dynamic Immersion: We built a variable environment system. The user starts in their living room (Passthrough), but as the narrative deepens, the walls dissolve into the Faroe Islands. We control the reality dial based on the user's focus.
Typography as Architecture: Instead of flat overlays, we treated the text as a 3D object. The quote regarding "150 years" isn't just a caption; it's a floating monolith that demands the user navigate around it.
The Conclusion: We proved that "reading" doesn't have to be static. By turning the content into a spatial environment, we increased retention simply because the user is physically surrounded by the story.
